Group members research and present topics which interest them. So far this year members who braved the snow in January shared their school stories which were very interesting and varied. Since normal speaker meetings resumed we have heard about The Exeter Blitz, The History of Taxes, and Richard III, the latter from a member whose ancestors owned the land where the King's remains were found between it being the site of Grey Friars Priory and a Council car park. Presentations in the last 3 months have been equally diverse - The History of the Middle East, Mariners, Mourners and Monks took us across Dartmoor using some of the lesser known routes and most recently Comparisons Between the 1665 Plague in London and Covid 19.
Next Meeting
There is no meeting at Ogwell Hall on Wednesday 13th August because ......
In August we go on a visit. This year we'll be going to St Nicholas' Priory, the oldest building in Exeter.
2024 found us at nearby Powderham Castle where we enjoyed a very informative and entertaining guided tour. Built as a medieval great hall by Sir Philip Courtenay in 1391 the castle is still home to the Courtenay family.
For a few photos of this and previous outings take a look at our gallery using the 'Picture Gallery' button on the left, select 'History' from the list, then 'View Slideshow' if you would like a title. Sorry, I've tried & tried to add them to this page - but failed!
